I am a new modbook user and am looking to use it to replace my cintiq 12wx for primarily sketching and painting (using sketchbook pro, corel painter and photoshop)
Has anyone got any tips on getting the base modbook up to speed so I can get on to using it effectively and efficiently.
A few things so far that seem to be the go:
-Apple Remote with Mira for hot keys (was thinking a velcro attaching it to the back left so i can use it easily while holding modbook).
-Quickscript is installed which seems to be pretty good at recognising writing.
Any other getting started tips??
Thanks nitwit. That is some great tips. Appreciated!!
Hey NitWit (EricN),
I hope Axiotron give you a free Modbook pro if it ever comes out as you seem to be doing the modbook (and community) a great service with all of you helpful apps and modbookish site. Thanks a bunch.
A couple of things I have found but maybe its just me:
-The PENAPT script seems to throw out my calibration such that the cursor sits about an inch to the right from where it should be. It seems to happen when a new pen set up with a new application.
-The display calibration tool seem to work well for me but cursor is offset to the left by about 4 pixels when on the very right of screen. i I wouldnt really care as i mainly draw in the middle but my hidden dock on the right doesnt pop up as i cant not touch the right edge with the cursor. Anyway I think i need to take some time the keep calibrating and perhaps using the fine tune calibration script but i not quite sure how it works.
The other thing I have found useful is the iphone app ITELEPORT. I can connect to the modbook via wifi and use the iphone like a wireless keyboard and mouse.
I am sure most people are aware of SMUDGEGUARD gloves, but if you are not you should get one. Save your modbook screen getting greasy and they are great for smooth action when sketching. The customer service is top notch...when I got mine I got a hand written peronsal note to say thanks for the purchase

Thanks for the feedback.

That is interesting. Unfortunately my Modbook is in the shop with a weird power connection issue, so I will not be able to properly address your PenApt problem for a couple weeks.
Still maybe I can figure it out: The problem pops up only when you set up a new app? Can you reproduce the problem whenever you want? Is the displacement always the same? Is the displacement permanent or temporary? What do you need to do to return it to normal? Lastly, what version of MacBook is your Modbook made from and are you using Leopard or Snow Leopard?
Try downloading November's Tablet driver from Wacom:
Driver 5.2.1-3 for OS X 10.6, 10.5 & 10.4 (PPC & Intel). There is a newer driver (July 15, 2010), but I haven't tested it yet.

Whenever the pen is near the the edge of the screen, the conducting bezel of Modbook will interfere with the RF connection between the pen and the tablet. Hence calibration is
always a bit off near the edge of the screen. Moreover, although my calibration tool uses nine calibration points, it still has to average the results in order to calibrate the tablet. So judge the quality of a calibration by how good it is over most of the screen. I find it helpful to use a different calibrations for my lap, in bed and on a stand, and, then, use the revert utility to switch back and forth.

Hey Eric, Thanks for more info. Sorry your modbook is out of action.
In the interim i did update to the wacom driver suggested and the calibration works a treat....absolutely awesome, so much better then the 2 point calibration.
For some reason the PenApt is now not throwing out my calibration (which is great) but now the settings are not sticking and they are resetting the pen buttons to right click. ie if i set the button 2 to click5 via normal settings and then open penapt it resets the button 2 to right click. Could be the way i am using it but i can get the settings I configure to stick. Is there a file that i can manually modify rather then using the gui to apply the settings i want?
Thanks again and i hope the modbook comes back all sorted.
Hi simetime,
I may have a partial explanation. There are a couple button options in Pen Preferences that are not supported in Wacom's AppleScript, namely, "4th click" and "5th click" (there also may be an issue with "play keystroke" — I'm not sure). Consequently, these two choices won't stick, but I'm not sure why it defaulted to "right click". Anyway, I can't improve things for "4th click" or "5th click" since that is a Wacom issue, but if you are have problems getting other choices to stick, let me know, and I will try to fool my Powerbook into thinking it has a tablet and attempt to figure this out.

Hey Eric,
Your explanation seems to be spot on. I wanted to make 5th click to open quickscript by default and use keystroke CommandZ when in Sketchbook to undo. Thanks once again!!
I had an idea in the shower this morning. It may be possible to work around the 4th and 5th click problem. I won't be able to see for sure until I get my Modbook back, but I may have a solution for you in a couple three weeks.

I have implemented my fix for the 4th click, 5th click, and play keystroke issue with
PenApt. I hope it solves the problem appropriately. Let me know if you have any other problems.
