Will Axiotron Mod my used MacBook or MacBook Pro?
Axiotron is an Apple Authorized Proprietary Solution Provider and is offering only complete new Modbook solutions with full one year and extended 3 year warranties through its authorized sales partners.
The Axiotron Modbook is specifically designed to work with the 13.3" Apple MacBook (Late 2007) and does not support the 15" or 17" Apple MacBook Pro models.

RE: Will Axiotron Mod my used MacBook or MacBook Pro?
Would there be any plans (even very long term) to sell a feature such as this?
Understandably it would only be available for the models Axiotron would be modding at the time. Are there any requirements in Apple's Authorization that would prevent Axiotron from offering this, or is it simply a matter of cost?

still doesn't answer the question of will you modify a used macbook 13.3 inch model. and if so how much would it cost

RE: Will Axiotron Mod my used MacBook or MacBook Pro?
I have called owc several times asking them about the ability for my currently owned 13.3" macbook to be shipped in, and modded into a modbook. Instead of having to save up for forever, and spending over 2k to get half of what I already own. It just seems silly not to be able to do this, since they are all hand made, and customized for they specific design. If it were a problem with their agreement with apple, why would it bother them? I mean they already have my 1300$+ from buying my currently owned macbook. It is not as if I were asking for a non-apple laptop to be converted into a modbook. Once axitron transforms my currently owned macbook, I would pay for parts+labor of course, but would no longer need the current lcd screen that is on the macbook, or for that matter the keyboard. I mean they would keep that, and could either re-sell or do whatever they wanted to with it. I have heard that I am not the only person looking for this solution. Since the modbook sticks out to the artist, (which have long been deemed "starving") why not do this mod, which you apparently have already done several times for a lower cost? I mean you might not be making the full $2K+, but wouldn't making $1200+ be better than making $0? I mean come on. This way everyone is happy, you get numerous extra computer components, increased sales, and increased customer support. All for doing something you do (daily). If I am going into the wrong direction, or have been misinformed with my words, please correct me.

Will, I understand and sympathize with your position. But look at it this way:
1) Axiotron isn't currently foregoing any money by not supplying kits for used MacBooks; they've been having problems producing kits fast enough for new machines, hence, long customer wait times for ModBooks based on new MacBooks.
2) The ModBook conversion would void your Apple warranty. As I'm sure you would want a warranty at least on the parts installed by Axiotron -- and they cannot be certain of the condition of a used machine without time-consuming checks and tests -- quality assurance and customer satisfaction issues can be tricky in retrofitting used MacBooks.
I bought a new ModBook from OWC, with extended warranty. Because of the modification, if either a MacBook component or an Axiotron component fails, OWC will fix the computer. But because of the modification, I can't send the ModBook to Apple for warranty repair of a MacBook component in my computer -- OWC will handle that for me, and I've had good experience with OWC. I've had my ModBook for 8 months and remain delighted that I have it.
Perhaps at some point modification kits may become available for "used" MacBooks. At the moment, Axiotron has made it clear that their business plan is to furnish only complete ModBooks based on new components through their sales partners.

RE: Will Axiotron Mod my used MacBook or MacBook Pro?
To reply to the warranty issue. I (and possibly whomever) bought their 13.3 macbooks a few years ago when they were "the latest" have no warranty left on their mac's. Unless they of course bought much farther additional warranty. The way I see it on the matter of not being able to put out modbooks on a "needed" order, would not hurt our idea of getting out pre-owned macbooks into modbooks. Correct me if I am wrong, but when modbooks are made the process goes something like this: 1)order multiple sets of needed parts 2)assemble parts 3) sell "new" modbooks 4) make income. Generally in the business world, when any new company starts out with an idea, they order step 1 on mass numbers. It is then either their, or their factory's job to put these supply's together, to be then shipped to wanting customers. If the owner has conducted business this way (surely not making purely on slow demand) then there should be many of the parts still available, that would be made into future "modbooks". So instead of putting those parts onto a new macbook, let me send in mine, and have you put those parts on My macbook. You then send it back, and I send your money for parts & service fees. You make a nice profit, and then order more parts (if needed) to put into the macbook that was originally going to be used (for my modbook). Then sell sell sell. I mean, am I crazy, or am I just missing something?

I am glad that the developers ended up going with the idea! I will soon be ordering one of these, when they become available. I can not wait!

I have a Macbook with a wrecked screen. Would it be eligible for a Modbook upgrade? (I assume there'd be an added cost since you can't resell the old screen.)
btw, what's up with the "white Macbooks only" policy?
