Running Windows (Bootcamp/Parallels)
(NOTE: The following configurations are UNSUPPORTED by Axiotron!)
We hear some of you folks out there who have been drinking the koolaid up in the great north west are interested in running Windows on the Axiotron ModBook.
The Axiotron ModBook, like all intel based Mac systems, is in fact able to run Microsoft Windows via Apple's Bootcamp technology.
As an alternative, most of you have also probably heard that Microsoft Windows can also run under Parallels virtualization within OSX
(Personally I prefer a hybrid configuration... actually run windows on bootcamp through parallels, so I have the option to boot completely into windows if I want to but can access through Parallels in OSX most of the time.)
Keep in mind that less than a hand full of the many versions of Windows actually has support for tablet hardware. In Theory, XP Tablet edition would be one of these, but Microsoft doesn't license this package stand alone, and hence we haven't had a chance to try it. Of the Vista editions, Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate all have tablet support and will work in bootcamp.
If you want to run Vista under Parallels or VMWare Fusion, though, the story is a bit different.
This is the skinny according to my esteemed colleague, Ben from Parallels...
http://parallelsvirtualization.blogspot....html#links
At this time, until we can get some support from either of the two virtualization vendors, Vista's tablet controls do NOT work under virtualization... the experience is like using the pen as a mouse only device on a pc, so the handwriting and pen flicks do not work well. In order for these features to work in windows, it must think that it's on a native tablet device, which is not the case under virtualization at this time.

I purchased Windows XP Tablet and will install; I'm still vexed about BlueTooth keyboard so will get a USB keyboard. Our medical office uses Motion Tablets so I'm trying to mesh.

Robert, Bluetooth is a known issue that has been explained here: http://forums.axiotron.com/showthread.php?tid=19 and if you are running windows, the bluetooth should work.

RE: Running Windows (Bootcamp/Parallels)
Let us know how the Tablet PC functions in Virtualization as a tablet running MS Tablet Edition. My EMR runs on Motion 1400 fine i'd love a Modbook if I could do Penchart in windows. It should run like a Tablet PC in Bootcamp right?

Yes, the Modbook IS a tabletPC if you use Bootcamp, and the tabletPC features will NOT work if you use virtualization.

RE: Running Windows (Bootcamp/Parallels)
That is a bummer. I'd dream of running my MAC stuff on my Tablet and using a Pen gesture to switch to space #2 were I am running MS Tablet XP work stuff. I use a pen based electronic medical record (Penchart). It would have been the best of both worlds.
So the virtualization stuff is on hold until Parallels/ VM Fusion get the functionality.
I will wait but I had my credit card ready to go....

RE: Running Windows (Bootcamp/Parallels)--no way to use XP Pro??
Hi folks,
I was given the impression that WinXP Pro would have tablet support, so that's what i got and just installed with bootcamp. How would I get my hands on a copy of Tablet edition instead? I can't migrate to Vista, because the software that I need to install for Windows won't work in Vista.
According to the help files in XP, I can get handwriting recognition through Office, which I have a copy of but haven't installed yet. But that module won't work until the XP even recognizes the tablet input, no?
I own a Wacom tablet for my Win desktop at work--would I be able to install the tablet driver to trick XP into recognizing the modbook interface? Just a long shot?
Many thanks for having this forum!

XP Tablet edition is an OEM only product, and not something that you can buy off the shelf (although here's a start: http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=X...1&ie=UTF-8). While we, at this point do only support Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, we haven't even played with this in our lab. Also, if I am not mistaken, Microsoft has scheduled Windows XP Tablet Edition for EOL at the end of June 2008.

RE: getting tablet functions in a virtual MS Tablet XP OS
What about Ritepen from Evernote.com? Someone (John Hill of alltp.com) just refreshed my memory of Ritepen. I can VPN from my Motion Tablet to my XP Pro work computer. Since I have Ritepen on the XP Pro machine I can use my Tablet to handwrite to the XP PRo machine. The logmein.com virtual desktop does not "break" the handwriting recognition.
Can someone from Axiotron load Ritepen to a virtual XP in Parallels or VMFusion to see if it works? Again I'd love to run native MAC OS with a Windows Tablet "window" in parallels. I need XP for work but I dig MAc for anything else.
Thanks.

RE: Running Windows (Bootcamp/Parallels)
I loaded vista through parallels and the tablet pc tools DON'T work. Maybe this is straight forward to fix, I don't know, but it would make me very happy to see this happen as I have to use both.
