RE: Running Windows (Bootcamp/Parallels)

Warning: I had much difficulty installing Windows operating system that required more than one CD. As I waited the 11 months between order and receipt of the ModBook, I obtained a copy of Windows XP Tablet that required two CDs. Installing from Bootcamp, I was unable to eject the first disk when installation requested the second. Even from external USB drive. Even when all files were placed on a DVD. Even with files on a flash drive. the partial installed Windows worked well even doing MacSpeech pro dictation through to a Windows networked electronic medical record from home via VPN. but I was unable to load other windows software due to incomplete install. As I result, I had to purchase yet another copy of Windows that installs from just one disk: Home edition. Hopefully it will be adequate.

RE: Running Windows (Bootcamp/Parallels)

I just ordered my Modbook yesterday. At home I have a Motion TAblet with XP Pro TAblet edition , along with a PowerBook. I was reading at the Parallels site that they have a program called transporter which will bring over your PC to the mac as is and it will run. I look forward to putting it all together and see. Has anyone at Axiotron done that?

I've see "parallels" Transporter, but don't want to clutter my bootcamp compartment with lots of excess PC stuff. Just bare minimum PC and lots of Mac for me.

The mac specch recognition work through Parallels to input into networked Windows XP software!

RE: Running Windows (Bootcamp/Parallels)

Window XP Pro PRO-blems

I've spent dozens of hours and many non-Mac dollars trying to install XP-Pro on Bootcamp, but so far no success and frustration spilling over into the Mac operating system.
My initial XP-Tablet cam on TWO (2) CDs. The drive in the ModBook ejects CDs only by the eject button on a well-associated keyboard. IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL IF THE RESET BUTTON ON THE MODBOOK WOULD EJECT DISKS IF HEL DOWN FOR SEVERAL SECONDS!!!!!
In any event, I was unable to eject the first install CD so I was never able to complete the Windows XP Pro Tablet install. Therefore, I started over and bought a second Window product; XP Home. This required only one CD and did install, but lacks some important network capacity. I was able to run my networked office medical records software with terminal emulation. Therefore, i then purchased a THIRD Windows product, the XP upgrade from Home to XP-Pro. This started to install, but cannot complete the install process; it leaves an incomplete non-functioning XP alternative that is the default if no USB keyboard is attached. My Modbook became STRANDED in unusable almost Windows XP-land when I only had my Bluetooth keyboard and USB Bluetooth dongle.

Perhaps XP pro could be installed if you could find a complete XP-Pro on a DVD install disk?

I don't mean to sound so ignorant but I have never used a MacBook before and don't quite understand this - does the Modbook not have a CD eject button on the interface? Or is it a drag-drop CD to trash can (which can't be done in Windows)?[/size]

RE: Running Windows (Bootcamp/Parallels)

The Modbook has two simple buttons- well designed to recess in the metal case above the tablet pad. The right button is ON/OFF. The left button resets the interface such as refinding the stylus input when pressed a few seconds. If pressed briefly, the left button activates the GPS. Unfortunately, neither button allow for ejecting a CD. The CD/DVD drive does NOT have a paperclip eject option. The MacBook always has the attached keyboard so the eject key will be available whether running Mac OS, or activating Windows through Bootcamp.
For me, the inability to eject a disk during Windows XP-Pro install has been a frustrating and expensive problem. If Axiotron can find a source for Windows operating systems with install DVDs rather than CDs, it might be very helpful.

RE: Running Windows (Bootcamp/Parallels)

Hi All,
I have the modbook and have a boot camp partition on the hard drive. I have windows XP home edition installed on it like I do all my other intel macs and it works fine. Obviously it is not the tablet edition, and so whether singlularly booted under boot camp or with parallels you have to use a usb keyboard and mouse to use it because there is no way to syncronize the pen to the windows OS . However, if you open XP boot camp under parallels and use the pen to select coherence mode(middle of the right side of parallels window) the pen features for the modbook tablet work perfectly fine in both windows and mac. Cheers, Jetmed

RE: Running Windows (Bootcamp/Parallels)

I posted this before on the General Support forum, but didn't get any response. Maybe I'll do better here, maybe I won't...

I've got a Modbook with no internal CD/DVD drive. It was replaced with a 2nd hard drive. (I thought it was a good idea at the time.) Now I'm having trouble installing WinXP TabletPC ed. under Bootcamp. The 1st bout of installation appears to work, but I get the message "Missing Operating System" when it tries to reboot and continue installation. Is this an external CD problem, a XP-TPCed (OEM) problem, or some other?

I was moderately successful in installing XP-TPCed under Parallels, and handwriting recognition was outstanding, but of course screen rotation doesn't work there. Screen rotation is one of my main reasons for wanting Windows at all.

Please help, if you can.

RE: Running Windows (Bootcamp/Parallels)

Axiotron advises against the installation of Windows XP Tablet PC Edition via Boot Camp on the Modbook.

Page 4 of the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide does not include Windows XP Tablet PC Edition in its list of Windows versions supported by Boot Camp: "Windows XP Home Edition or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later, or Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate"

Furthermore, the Installation & Setup Guide explicitly states on page 4 that a single-disc installation is required: "Important: You must use a single full-install Windows installation disc (Service Pack 2 is required for Windows XP installations)."

Finally, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition is an OEM-only product and is scheduled for end-of-life (EOL) on June 30, 2008.

Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional Edition and Windows Vista Home Basic Edition can be installed on the Modbook via Boot Camp. However, those operating systems do not have tablet support and their use on the Modbook will lack tablet-specific functionality.

Axiotron recommends that Modbook users wishing to install Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, or Windows Vista Ultimate – all of which have tablet support – via Boot Camp have a thorough understanding of the process by reading the relevant technical documentation.

I found these instructions on how to burn xp tablet edition on a single disc here. I haven't tried it myself so I don't know if itl works or not.
