Can anyone help me out?! I have a Modbook (first Leopard, now Snow Leopard; not the original hard drive and maximum memory installed) where all I get is the spinning beach ball at start up. I saw that a diagnostics mode can be reached on a Macbook by pressing D at start up. I couldn't get that to work. Is there a particular time during startup that I need to hit the D? Does this even work on the Modbook?

I've also seen this can be done with the Mac install disk. I wanted to check if this is ok to do on Modbook?

Any tips anyone has would be greatly appreciated. I have work projects I must access in short order and am stuck!

Thank you!

I really want to figure out what I'm up against... power issue... memory... hard drive...? I was working on it fine yesterday morning. Then I plugged it into a power strip at a convention hall to recharge. After that, all I could get is the spinning beach ball.

Although I read on a revue site that Quickscript caused problems with Lion. I found no problem with most things, but Textedit froze or acted strangely until I "quit" it, even when I wasn't using script. As soon as it was off, Textedit showed the coloured dots on the top bar, and everything worked.
There is no slowing down, or speeding up, on the Lion drive. I now use Pages instead, also Stickies and Sketchbox. I have a 750 Gig drive and 8 Gigs of RAM on a Macbook Pro 2011. I was worried about switching from Snow Leopard, but needed to replace it with a new MBP, that came with Lion. I'm glad Quickscript still works!

LOADED Axiotron Modbook, 160GB 4 GB ram 3.1 ghz Intel Core Duo DVD RW GPS

This is what I am listing on eBay tomorrow, Thanksgiving, for 10 day auction-style, no reserve, $500 start price, or $1800 Buy It Now

Excellent Used Condition. Comes with tons of already loaded ready-to-use software including Microsoft Office 2008, Adobe Photoshop CS (early edition), Adobe Illustrator, ArtRage 3 Studio Professional (and disk), Axiotron Modbook Software, MAC OSX Installer, Disks for Painter X and AutoDesk SketchBook Pro. While this machine is completely functional as a MacBook Pro it is really meant for use by artists. You can make some serious art on this thing (not ruling out dabblers or aspiring artists, of course!) You also get an Apple Wireless keyboard ... handy as the ModBook's keyboard is an onscreen one. The wireless keyboard allows you to use this as a full on computer as well as a tablet.

This Modbook was just serviced by a certified Modbook service shop in September 2011 and received a new back cover. The white bottom case was replaced in because of an Apple manufacturing flaw. It was cracking in many places. Apple had a cover replacement program for the MacBook Pro of this era due to this cracking problem.
The clear plastic protective cover is still on (visible in the second photo). While the Modbook was out for service I purchased an iPad and an iMac so I no longer need this Modbook.

FLAWS:
crack on the white part of the cover to the left of the camera eye on top of the device (photos 3-5), three scratches on the top left portion of the screen surface (see photos 4-5), and some surface dirt on the digitizer pen and keyboard, and a couple of "fleabites" on the case to the left of the screen (I think these happened when it was being serviced for replacement of the bottom case). Please note: The scratches on the screen are slight surface scratches which are only visible in certain light and in no way interfere with drawing / viewing capability. The flaws do not in any way diminish the capabilities or usability of this Modbook, nor do they make it susceptible to future diminished capability. (They are only cosmetic flaws)

STATS:
3.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
160 GB HD (148.73 GB after the default OS X installation which takes up about 20 GB due to all of the bundled software, and then down to 113 with all of the software that I loaded onto it which you get to keep or discard if you don't want it. Printer drivers, GarageBand loops, and iDVD themes are some of the major space hogs You can delete some of these things if you want, but you might want to give some of the apps a try even if you don't think you want them. You've got a nice big drive for your laptop)
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 SDRAM
DVD RW
Leopard 10.7.2
Bluetooth

NOTE: You may NOT want to upgrade to LION, Apple's new OS. Lion is not compatible with "Power PC" apps. With LION, Apple no longer supports Rosetta which was necessary for the Mac platform to use apps like Microsoft Office 8, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator. I'd just leave it the way it is. My new iMac came with Lion and none of this software was compatible so that is why you get it! My loss = Your gain!

Well, the jumping cursor has rendered my modbook useless and after a year of trying to fix the problem (which has taken more of my time than working on the damned thing), I'm giving up and looking for a tablet designed by professionals. I've looked at Motion Computing, Toshiba, and Fujitsu, but they seem strangely secretive about their tablet specs. Does anyone have a model recommendation? Any knowledge about pressure sensitivity? A personal experience to share?

I don't need much. The only program I really use is TVPaint and it has fairly low system requirements. I'm just looking for a tablet that actually works, has decent pressure sensitivity, and is fairly inexpensive.

Thanks.

Thanks.

going to 10.6.4 I made sure I had the latest wacom driver 5.2.1-3, and no problems. even still the really annoying quickscript window pop-up annoyance.

today just finished the jump to 10.6.8 with zero probs and wonders of wonder, the quickscript now behaves!

I didn't get the latest wacom driver 5.3.4

So playing Angry Birds is all good.

I did create a timemachine backup as well as a bootable external clone. didn't need them though.
